Teachers need to understand how languages are learnt and what factors influence language learning to help their learners learn effectively and easily. This will help them improve their own language competence which in turn will improve their teaching competence.
There are many factors that affect the learning of English for the learners of other languages. Some of the most important factors include:
Motivation: Learners who are motivated to learn English are more likely to succeed. Motivation can come from a variety of sources, such as a desire to improve one's job prospects, to travel, or to connect with English-speaking cultures.
Attitude: Learners who have a positive attitude towards English are also more likely to succeed. A positive attitude can be fostered by providing learners with opportunities to use English in real-world contexts and by celebrating their successes.
Age: There is some evidence that younger learners may have an easier time learning English than older learners. This is because younger learners' brains are more plastic and they are less inhibited about making mistakes. Teachers need to identify ways of motivating the learners, providing tasks as per the age group, providing appropriate tasks for different types of learners and improve the learning environment in the class.
